Analysis of the situation of ecological agriculture in the province of Valladolid

This research project is developed by the GIR in Energy, Economy and Systems Dynamics of the University of Valladolid for Entretantos Foundation.

The research entails carrying out an exhaustive inventory of ecological agriculture producers (farmers and farm managers) in the province of Valladolid, as well as consumer groups and stores specialized in organic products.

In this inventory, it must be specified, at least:

  1. Identification of the producer or operator.

  2. Age of the agricultural holding.

  3. Surface and characteristics of the farm or the facilities and possible investment needs.

  4. Crops or products, and quantities produced, sold and thrown away.

  5. Main economic variables of the agricultural holding.

  6. Temporal evolution.

Along with the inventory, the project carries out two types of activities:

  1. A personal interview with the producer or operator, in which they detail and identify the main problems and challenges they face (market, administrative, etc.) and a personal interview with those responsible for consumer groups, in this interview they explain in detail and identify the main problems they face in ordinary management.

  2. Preparation of a discussion group formed by four categories: a selection of producers, consumer groups, small specialized trade and members of the Administration (at a triple level: state, regional and municipal level). From this discussion group are drawn the corresponding conclusions.

Once the field work is done, a report with the main results is written.

Additionally, the data of the previous work: “Agro-food metabolism and ecological footprint of food as indicators of urban sustainability” are updated.
